Dear Writer’s Block – ROW80

Dear Writer’s Block,

It’s not you, it’s me. I know we’ve been together for over a year, but it is time for us to part ways. So, I will no longer be sitting with you and talking to you. It is over, and time for us to move on. I’ve stories to write and worlds to build. I want to put characters in desperate situations and see how they get out of them. I want to help them find love, romance, and to finally find happiness.

For the past year, you haven’t made me happy. You’ve only made me procrastinate by playing online games on Facebook. Isn’t that what social media is for?

But it’s over between you and me. I have NaNo coming up next month and I want to finish 50k words in 30 days. I’ve never done it and this year has to be my year to shine.

I don’t want you to be unhappy. Believe me, you will find someone else to spend your time with. I know you will be in touch, but don’t expect me to call.

I don’t love you, and never have loved you. It’s not fair to you to be around someone who doesn’t like you. Feel free to find someone else.

What I’m trying to say, is that, I’m breaking up with you. So sorry to waste your time, but what is time to you anyways. I should have had two books already published this year. Instead, I will be lucky to have completed one.

Goodbye my Blocked Head and may peace follow you wherever you go.

Sincerely,

Your latest Writing Victim

ROW80:

I’m back! NaNo is right around the corner. I still don’t know what my NaNo story will be about, let alone a title. Will it be Contemporary or Fantasy? Even that I don’t know yet.

That secret wip is coming to a close. I have another 10k words to go before I’ve hit the end of the story. Sometimes it is hard for me to write the ending. I’m never sure if it is enough.

I guess what I need to focus on is whether or not it is a happy ending. If it is a happy ending then, it is the end of the story. No happy ending means the story must go on until I’ve got that happy ending.

Yesterday, I wrote almost 2k words. I consider this pretty good since I’ve been plagued by writer’s block for the past year. It all started half way through NaNo. I don’t want to continue with this writer’s block. My goal for the coming writing season is to write a minimum of 200 words a day. If I can do this, it may keep me writing long enough to get back into the good writing habits I had a few years ago.

So how’s your writing going? Did you pick a NaNo title yet? Do you have NaNo buddies? I would be more than happy to be your buddy.

Do Da Writing Sprint #amwriting #ROW80

Puppy Power!

I remember Scrappy Do from Scooby Do. Scrappy was fearless and full of energy. That’s the way our pup Keelaa appears to be. She runs around like a miniature greyhound, doing figure eights around the older dog Julie.

Meanwhile, Julie barks encouragement, sound as though she is saying faster, faster, faster…

I’m not sure what she is in training for. Maybe counter-attacking the family cats who keep trying to terrorize her by pouncing on her from dark corners. I never realized, cats can be so mean when they want to be.

Me, I haven’t actually run sprints since High School. I’m not sure if I could either. The body doesn’t function the way it once did. I have toyed with the idea of taking up running, and think of it long enough to say, “I don’t know. Can I go that quarter mile?”

Then I’d have to take not just one dog, but both dogs, and the older dog would get to the quarter mile and require either a long rest or a car ride back home. I’m not carrying a 100 pound dog back home.

ROW80:

Sprints can be applied in different areas, like writing, which is what I did all week, except for Friday night and Saturday night.

My secret work in progress is coming along nicely. I have the first draft at 75% done.

It feels good to be able to write once again, after months and months of writers’ block.

I think I needed a different creative outlet to help me think and plot. So, I thought about else I’d been doing when I wrote Aaron & Keja and Witch Book. I’d been crocheting, or knitting, or one of the many craft projects I like working on.

My son has a requested that I make him an afghan. I was supposed to make this for him last winter, but never finished it in time. Since it is getting cold again, I’ve picked the project backup, and now I’m doing the finishing touches, as in the border.

Since I picked the project backup, I’ve seen an increase in my word count, of nearly 5k words for the week.

My hopes for the week are to at least match the word count for the entire week, and be done with the first draft by the end of the month.

How is your writing going?

Are you struggling? Have you considered changing just one thing you’ve been doing when you’re not writing?

I think being able to channel creativity in another form can help open up the channels that fuel our writing muse.
