Letter to the Little Worm

Dear Bait,

You have taken it upon yourself to dig your way deep into the dirt. My son, the fisherman, only wants to take you to a local pond for a little dip. He never meant for that fish to bite half your head off before being caught on his fish hook. If only you had been a little bit longer, you would’ve last for more than ten minutes. It was bad enough that the fish, Mr. Big Mouth, decided in the end that you weren’t what he was looking for as his next meal.

In the end, you were replaced by one of those hooks with the tassels that don’t get stuck on the weeds. Job well done, Mr. Big Mouth was caught and then released so he could return to his family and keep the pond stocked for the coming year.

Once again, in the coming days, the fisherman will be out looking for you. Hopefully, you will be much larger when he finds you.

Sincerely,

Fisherman’s Mother
