I climbed this mountain years ago when my kids were small. My daughter was only 3. This is Mount Monadnock. It has a little spring at the top of the mountain, on the White Dot trail. Part of the trail, from what I remember, is a rough hike. There were lots of areas where one needed to climb the rocks. That was the White Dot Trail – back around 1992. It’s been a while, so things may have changed. It was the only trail I’ve ever been on, so I don’t know what the others are like. I didn’t like the way the trails were marked for coming back down. It was easy to lose the trail where the spring is situated. The dots appeared to face down the mountain, being obscured from view on the way down. I was afraid I would get lost, so I did what I knew to be the right thing. I sat down with my daughter at the spring and waited. I knew there were other hikers about. All I had to do was listen and wait. Sure enough, some came by and I asked how to get back down. They gladly led the way. Apparently they were one of the many daily hikers that visit the summit.
