What an analogy.
I guess that is what it has been like with getting this Work In Progress done this time around. Just like pulling teeth.
Oh no!
Last night I had a dreaded molar break on me while I was eating supper. Now I have to make a trip to the dentist tomorrow to see if there is anything they will be able to do for it besides pull it.
The original filling is still in the tooth and I’m sure that it may have been one of the reasons that the tooth cracked in the first place. My filling is one of those silver fillings. I hear that most dentists try to avoid using the old style silver fillings because they do just that. The can cause the tooth to crack over time.
It is bugging me too. Not that it is hurting. It is just annoying to feel part of the tooth jagged and almost broken down to the gum line. I don’t want to wait too long; I have a fear of getting an infection in it.
It bugged me so much last night that I did not write nor did I play World of Warcraft. Instead my tongue kept me busy as it constantly rubbed against the jagged edge.
At first I thought it was the molar next to my wisdom teeth, but it wasn’t. It was the one in front of that one.

This week I added another 1k words to Road Salt this week, now at 16k words. I am slowly getting this done, but it has been hard. Teen drama is not one of my most favorite genres to write. I am doing this because I was asked to by my son’s rehab counselor. Plus years ago I promised my readers that there was going to be another book to go with Friends of Choice.
In general, I have found drug addiction a hard topic to write about but yet it affects so many lives in our world, not just our country.
Some countries are having serious issues with Bath Salt usage. The United States has gone about banning the substance from being sold on store shelves in most states. But the problem still exists. The product can still be found at online sites around the world.
So hopefully I will be able to educate the public about Bath Salts when I am done.
Guess I had better get to work and get writing so I can get this done.

The same thing happened to me years ago…silver filling and all. I swear, it was like a whole fourth of my molar broke off! Fortunately, all I need was a crown put in (the molar not hurting is a good sign!!) 🙂 And good luck with Road Salt (great title BTW). Even if it’s not your favorite, it’s definitely an interesting topic that will resonate with a lot of folks…

Thanks Claudia. I hope that the dentist will be able to do something good to this tooth. I will be seeing her tomorrow morning. I’m not really looking forward to having it pulled so the alternative crown sound like a great idea. Hopefully there is enough tooth there for her to work with.
I keep asking myself, why am I not enjoying writing Road Salt. I guess because it is not intended to be an entertaining read. Hopefully I can make this up with a little bit of action and maybe some suspense.

In the meantime, some stories just want to take their own time. It might be like one of those paintings where you leave the canvas there and every so often add a little daub her or there, and it’s done when it’s done.

I respect someone like you who writes on an uncomfortable topic, writes not just to entertain, but to bring an important topic to the masses, to help them understand the depth of a problem in our society.
These types of deep subjects are emotionally draining to write. I once tried to write a story on the pain of a young girl being victimized by her father, and i was never able to complete it properly, as the emotional toll it took on me was more than I could handle.
I wish you the best of luck in completing Road Salt.
Also, while I’ve never had a cracked tooth, I’ve had severe mouth pain before, and I can imagine what you’re going through. I hope the dentist can fix your tooth the way you’d like it fixed, and save the tooth.

It helps to hear that someone else has tried to write on a topic like the one I am trying to tackle with Road Salt. I will persevere and finish this story, it just might take me a bit longer than I anticipated.
My biggest help is the fact that I have the plot all mapped out and I know where the story is supposed to go and how it is to end up. But I do have to destroy the lives of some of my characters along the way. That is a hard thing for me to do.

I have a terrible dental phobia and a broken tooth is a nightmare to me. I’d far rather have it pulled than have “work” done on it!! If your dental analogy was meant to express your agony while writing Road Salt you certainly have gained my attention! May all your work both dental and literary go along smoothly from here on out. Both are worth what may be saved by the outcome!

Theresa, it is so good to see you here. I too have the same phobia of dentists. I avoid them as much as possible. I gave a lot of thought to having the tooth pulled and mentally prepared myself to say goodbye to it. But then the dentist said it might be saveable. We will see when she gets a look at it tomorrow.
I also found it funny that the agony I am going though with writing Road Salt is mirroring this tooth problem. I promise to not pull the story and work on something else. I will finish it. It just might take a bit longer to write than I had expected.
